

Maureen Kubala, age 75 of San Jose, California, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, peacefully in her home. She was born June 14, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, where she spent her childhood. In June 1960, she met the love of her life, Donald Kubala, and they were married November 20, 1965. They moved to Orlando, Florida in 1974, and were happily married until his death from cancer in 1993.
While raising their three children, working part-time and volunteering for Good Shepherd Church and School and the Girl Scouts, Maureen completed her college education at the University of Central Florida eventually earning a Master’s of Accounting and becoming a certified public accountant.
She began her professional career as a staff accountant for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich and advanced quickly through the ranks of HBJ and its successor entities. Her career took the family from Orlando, FL, to Woodcliff Lake, NJ, then, in 1993 to Monterey, CA, where she served as Chief Financial Officer of CTB/McGraw-Hill. She was instrumental in making CTB the nation’s premier assessment company and served as mentor and champion for many professionals.
After retiring in 2005, she moved to San Jose, California, spending her time traveling, scrapbooking, cross-stitching, and doting on her six grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen McCay (Saratoga, CA); son, Christopher Kubala (Charlotte, NC); daughter, Sherry Hibbard (Elkridge, MD); sister Kathy Herzic (Orlando, FL); and grandchildren Dave Kubala, Lily Kubala, Valarie Hibbard, Jocelyn Hibbard, Nathan McCay, and Katrina McCay.
Visitation will be held, Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 10AM-12PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Goldenrod Chapel with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 5900 Oleander Drive, Orlando, Florida 32807. Interment will immediately follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park, Florida.
