Mimi Hurt age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 10, 2016 in her gracious Winter Park home that she occupied since 1968. She was vital and youthful to the end of her life, radiating style, wit, and celebrating life with old world European elegance. Born in Stavanger, Norway in 1927, Mimi was the daughter of Andreas Elvin Kleiberg and Marie Haagensen Kleiberg and was one of four children. After surviving the 1939-45 Nazi occupation of her hometown during the World War II, a period that shaped Mimi's character and left her with searing memories, she entered the Norwegian Army Signal Corps in 1946, the country's first female military corps. Serving as a Second Lieutenant, Mimi could disassemble then assemble a Lugar, blindfolded, in 90 seconds. After the military, Mimi spent time in Paris, France as an au pair to a French noble family, which strongly influenced her innate sense of style. Because of her fluency in multiple languages, Mimi became one of the first Pan Am Flight attendants, allowing her to travel the world with a sense of adventure she never lost. She met her future husband, Charles C. Hurt, an officer in the U.S. Air Force, who pursued her across Europe. They married in 1952. Subsequently, they lived in Japan and throughout Europe, eventually settling in Winter Park where the Hon. Charles C. Hurt served as a judge for many years. Mimi won over Charles's large Central Florida family and made lifelong friends. She is survived by her children, James Brian Hurt, Charles Clyde "Butch" Hurt, Jr., Mimi Elisabeth "Lisa" Hurt, Anna Kristina "Tina" Kleiberg Hurt, who predeceased her in 1990, all of Winter Park and two grandchildren, Erik Moore of Winter Park, and Kristina Moore of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A step-daughter, Margaret Mary Hurt, lives near Asheville, NC. An extended group of adoring nieces and nephews will also miss Mimi greatly. Friends are invited to Mimi's life celebration and reception Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. at the University Club of Winter Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the American Cancer Society .
