Charles Ronald Brock, of Altamonte Springs, died peacefully with his family on June 19, 2023. Ron was born on February 26, 1935, in Graceville, Jackson County, Florida, the eldest son of Charlie and Jewel (nee Williams) Brock. The family subsequently moved to Panama City, FL, where Ron attended Bay County High School, from which he graduated in 1954. Ron was a good athlete and enjoyed playing basketball and football. He then attended Florida State University, in Tallahassee, ultimately graduating from that college in 1959. Ron remained an avid fan of his Seminoles for his entire life. While attending FSU, Ron met the sorority girl who was to be his future wife, Marian (nee Riecken), and they were subsequently married, in Orlando, FL, February 27,1960, shortly after Marian graduated from FSU. They were happily married for 55 years, each secretly thinking that they were the lucky one in the relationship.
At the beginning of their life together, Ron and Marian lived in St. Petersburg, FL, for almost 10 years, where they started their family. They then returned to Central Florida and built their family home on a lot in Altamonte Springs which Marian’s Aunt Nelly had left to them, and which Marian often described as being “way out in the country”! Ron began working for the Winter Park Telephone Company, in Human Resources, and built his career with that company through its various subsequent iterations, United Telephone, Sprint, etc., ultimately retiring after many years of loyal service. He enjoyed and took pride in his work and forged many lifelong friendships with his co-workers, whom he respected and valued. For the last five years of his life, Ron lived independently at Westminster Winter Park and was an active member of that community. He was made to feel welcome and received a great deal of support from his neighbors, several of whom became his dear friends.
Ron is survived by his three children, Beth, Chris & Chuck; four grandchildren Christopher, Cameron, McKensey & Alex; great grandchild, Bella; and, brother, Jim. He was predeceased by his wife, Marian; parents, Charlie & Jewel; sister, Cindy; and brother, Tony.
Ron was a devout member of the New Covenant Anglican Church in Winter Springs. His faith, and the support of that church community, brought him great comfort and solace throughout his life. He also took his civic duties seriously, serving for many years in the U.S. Army Reserve and supporting various worthy charitable organizations.
Ron will be remembered fondly and with great love by his family and many dear friends. He set an example for us all, in the way that he lived his life and left us feeling that we were better off for having known him. He will be missed by all of us that loved and respected him.
A memorial service to commemorate Ron’s life will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11.00 A.M. at New Covenant Church, 800 Tuskawilla Road, Winter Springs, FL,32708. In remembrance of Ron’s life, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to the Wounded Warrior Project in Ron’s name- www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
