Thomas Robert Carlson Sr., 70, passed away peacefully July 7, 2023 at his residence in Winter Springs, FL. Having battled two separate cancer diagnosis and beating it once, Tom finally succumbed to his illness and was called to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born in West Union, Iowa in 1953, Tom grew up working in his father’s general store until his family moved to Dunedin, FL when he was sixteen years old. After graduating from Dunedin High School, he attended Florida State University and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, later graduating from the University of North Florida.
He called St. Augustine, FL home for a short time where he met the love of his life, Julie and married her in 1976. Four years later they welcomed in their only son, T.R. and shortly thereafter moved to Central Florida. He worked in manufacturing, sales, finance and insurance throughout his career and was an avid golfer having been a member at multiple golf clubs over the years. His greatest enjoyment was coaching T.R. through Tee-Ball and Little League, volunteering his services at all his son’s sporting events and activities, supporting him in every way possible and taking pride in the commitment to never missing a practice or a game.
Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Julie; son, T.R.; sister and brother-in-law, Michele and Barry Tedder, and several cousins. He was a loving husband and father with a heart of gold, an infectious sense of humor and a smile that will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Private services will be held at a later date and donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
