Virginia Hardy

HARDY, VIRGINIA LEE MEERS, 89, Winter Park, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2011, in Winter Park, FL. Virginia was born June 11, 1921 in Maribone, KY to William and Jennie Meers. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers and sisters, Carden, Margaret, Wilbur, Lannie and Fred. She attended school in Kentucky and Illinois. She was married in Cropsey, IL to Joseph Maurice Hardy on November 21, 1942. Her beloved Joe passed away shortly after their return from NC. They were married 56 years. Virginia was the manager of the Winter Park Memorial Hospital hospitality shop for many years before moving to Miami, FL in April 1978. She and Joe lived in Miami for 17 years where they were active members of Kendall United Methodist Church. After retiring in 1995 they lived in Hayesville, NC, until April 1999, when they returned to live in Groveland, FL. Virginia lived with her daughter Nancy and family in Winter Park until October 2006 where she resided at the Regents of Winter Park. She is survived by her children, daughters Nancy Joan Schram (Richard) Winter Park, Elizabeth Lee Vayo (Ron) Landrum, SC and Sandra Jean

DeWoody (Stephen) Winter Park; her grandchildren, Joey, Cynthia, Lora, Victoria, Catharine, Richard (Rick), Samantha and Spencer; and eight Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are under the direction of Carey Hand Cox-Parker Funeral Home, 1350 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park, FL. A private family graveside service celebrating Virginia's life will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011, with the Reverend Gary Rideout, Associate Pastor, First United Methodist Church Winter Park officiating, where Virginia was a member for more than 12 years. A Memorial Service Celebrating Virginia's life is planned for what would have been Virginia's 90th birthday, June 11, 2011. An Announcement of that Celebration will be made at a later date.
