Virginia was born on April 28, 1931 in Washington, DC to Earnest & Nora Spilman, the youngest of 8 siblings. She grew up in Washington, DC and graduated from McKinley Tech High School. She went to work on Capitol Hill, becoming secretary to vice-presidents and congressmen. She met her future husband Harold Johnson at an Air Force dance in 1951. The two wed in 1952 and were married 26 years. She retired early to devote her life to raising her son.
Virginia loved to travel, and saw Alaska, Hawaii, Russia, and much of Europe. She was a person of strong convictions, shy among new faces but with a wicked sense of humor among people she knew and trusted. She cherished having so much of her Bailey family close by to spend time and share stories with.
Virginia Johnson is survived by her son Harold and his wife Samantha, and her granddaughter Ruby, as well as countless nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and all of her siblings.
