My name is Greg Direnzi. I played freshmen football with Walt at W.V.U. in 1966. I was looking Walt up on-line when I found his obituary. I am so very, very sad to see it. Please accept my sincere condolences. I had only known him for the time we were at W.V.U. but he was a very good person, that was obvious.

I just heard the sad news about Walt.  I am sending up prayers for him and all his family. After playing football with him at North Catholic, Walt went onto West Virginia University, on a full athletic scholarship, and I went to Pitt.  We went from playing together to playing against each other in the NCAA's oldest, uninterrupted rivalry, until this year. Walt would always find me after the game, win or lose, and always smile and congradulate  me on my play, good or bad.  Aside from being a great athlete, he always made the classy effort to find me. I am very sorry to hear of Walt's passing. I knew Walt at North Catholic and played football with him. I last spoke to Walt after I sent him our football picture last year. I know he treasured it - we had a special bond among the guys on the team and Walt was a key part of it.

I am truly saddened to hear of Walter's passing. I had the priviledge of going to Grade School and High School and playing football with Walt. He was a great football player and a better person.

Pat, my deepest sympathy on the loss of a great guy and friend.  Walt and I attended North Catholic, participated in football, sang in the glee club, and double dated throughout high school.  We attended West Virginia and after graduation went our separate ways.  It's a disappointment that the latest news for me on Walt is  his passing.  I'm very sorry, Pat, and please take care. My best friend growing up was Walt's brother Donald and I got to know Walt pretty well.  He was like a big brother to whom we always looked up. I haven't seen him much in the intevening years; but he will always have a special place in our hearts and was a person to be admired.  God Bless your family in this difficult time.  - Newt

Dear Pat,
We met years ago when you and Walt were first married. I am so sorry for your loss. Walt was an old friend from West Virginia University and a dear and gentle soul. He will be missed by all who had the privelege to know him.

I am Ken Surdick, a cousin of Rich and Tom Surdyk. I can remember that when Walt would visit Uncle Chester and Aunt Jean, he would at times play the accordian. He and Rich would compete with each other to see who was best. I think Walt had the upper hand. The last time I saw Walt we were about 16 years old. We have good memories of Walt and his whole family. We are so sorry to hear of his death. We will keep you both in our prayers. Ken and Linda Surdick
