William "Bill" Haynes, age 92, of Winter Springs, Florida, passed away on April 21, 2024. He was born on January 20, 1932 and grew up on a farm in Indiana. He always had a special place in his heart for his home state but had called Florida home for 50 years.
Bill was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and his dogs through the years. He enjoyed tending to his garden, especially his bromeliads. He was known for his warm heart, sense of humor, and love of nature.
He is survived by his beloved spouse Gloria Johnson; children Bill Haynes, Terri Driggers (Jay), Laura Held (Arthur); sister Rita Shaw (Joe); grandchildren Chris (Sarah) Davis, Julia Haynes, Kelly Plott, and Samantha Driggers; great-grandchildren Damien and Delilah Plott; several nephews and a niece; and his loyal dog Jazz. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Wilma Haynes and his son Douglas Haynes.
Bill served in the Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed in Germany. After his military service, he pursued a career in commercial real estate sales, property management, and commercial real estate appraisal. He attended Ambia High School, spent two years at Butler University, and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, playing tennis for as long as he was able, attending Silver Sneakers workout classes, and traveling to many national parks and a very special trip to Sweden and Norway.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home on Aloma Avenue in Winter Park, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
