Agnes Sarah Gaw of Glenavon and Grenfell, and later of Balcarres, Saskatchewan, passed in her 103rd year of life. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Mary Gaw (nee Yule); multi-family siblings: Bob, Jack, Dolores, Laurie, Irvine, Murray, Bill, Marion Mason and survived by half-brother Clifford. Agnes cherished the close ties with these siblings, their spouses and their children.
Agnes was raised with her half-brother, Bob, then lived next to Bob and Eleanor’s farm and their children, Sharon and Brendalynn. Agnes thoroughly enjoyed visiting with family, friends and neighbours. Her charitable generosity, support of community and dedication to the Baring Good Companions ladies club was constant. Agnes’ flower and vegetable gardens were both beautiful and bountiful. Hikes in the pasture filled her days…no matter the weather or season. Raw nature and wildlife were her comfort.
Harvest time was a highlight. Agnes delighted in cooking and personally delivering meals with tea for the combiners and truckers in the field. She loved tending her garden, preserving food, overwintering flowers, and keeping track of the weather in her daily diary.
In later years Agnes spent the winters with Bob and Eleanor in Grenfell, then returned to farm life in early spring. In 2017 at 95 years, Agnes moved to the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre where she enjoyed excellent care and the meals prepared for her.
Agnes passed peacefully and will be missed. She requested no service be held in her honour and asks that flowers or a vegetable garden be planted in her memory.
