Edgar attended McPherson School and completed high school in Grenfell. He began farming following high school and married Mary Ann Steininger in 1948. He began as a pedigreed seed grower in 1958, becoming involved in innovated growing of rapeseed varieties, which continued for over three decades. Edgar was an active member of the community including being a member of the McPherson School Board, going on to becoming involved in the amalgamation of the Grenfell School Division. He was also on the Board of Stewards and a session member in the Grenfell United Church. At the same time, he was a leading force in the establishment and construction of Grenfell Regional Park and spent many seasons managing hockey teams there. He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge for many years and was also active in the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and close friends Colin, Claybyn, Gib, Ernie, Jim Kerr and the Christie boys. After semi-retiring from the farm, Edgar and Marion spent a number of years traveling through out Canada and the U.S.A. They also spent a few years wintering in Texas. Their summers were also filled spending time at their cottage at Crooked Lake with the whole family. After Marion passed away in 1989, Edgar continued traveling and hunting with his close friend Gib Thomlinson. In 1994 Edgar married Ethel Warwick and continued traveling including taking in the annual family camping trip each and every summer. Edgar and Ethel were together for seventeen years. Most of all, Edgar’s greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Predeceased by first wife Mary Anne (1989), second wife Ethel Warwick (2011), parents Wilbert (1931) and Florence (Reynolds, 1980), brothers Stanley (1929), Colin (2007), brother-in-law Charlie Garratt (2001), sister-in-law Barbara Hardy (2008). Survived by 7 children: Allan (Marion), Brian (Gloria), Dianne (Dave) Blackwell, Garry (Shannon), Bob (Joe Anne), Calvin (Cindy), Spence (Jo Anne); 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Alice Garratt, Eileen (Doug) Kent, sister-in-law Evelyn Kent, special cousin Claybyn (Irene) Hood. Also survived by Ethel’s family Cal (Lynne) Warwick, Betty (Neil) Neuls, and Hilton Warwick. The funeral service will be held in the Grenfell United Church, Grenfell, SK. on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Shirley Schlamp officiating. Interment of cremated remains in Grenfell Cemetery at a later date.
