Nov. 12, 1945 – Aug. 21, 2017
Surrounded by her loving family, Eunice Marie Wolfe (née Scott) passed away Aug. 21 at age 71.
Eunice was predeceased by her parents, Thelma, Hartley and Marion Scott; a brother and sister in infancy; parents-in-law Jacob and Edythe Wolfe; sisters-in-law Joyce Naujok and Margaret Wolfe; brothers-in-law Lloyd Johnston and Bob Nolan.
Eunice is lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Ron; children Leanne, Tracey and Cory; granddaughters Katelyn, Jenna and Amy; brothers Colin Scott (Monica), Kevin Scott (Diane) and Terrence Scott (Kathy); sister Karen Barss (Barry); aunts Edna Olive, Gertie Scott and Betty Johnson; in-laws Horst Naujok, Herb Wolfe, Gladys Nolan, Joan Haylock (Lawrence), Marlene Johnston, Murray Wolfe (Marg) and Judy Le Roux (Eric); as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends.
Eunice was born at Indian Head and raised on the family farm south of town. She started school at Glenn Lynn country school, making the daily roundtrip of nine miles with a two-wheel cart and pony. She also attended Qu’Appelle Diocese School in Regina and Indian High School before moving on to Saskatchewan Teachers College in Regina. Upon completion of her studies, Eunice began her teaching career at Grenfell Elementary School in the fall of 1964. The Grenfell posting proved momentous as she met her future husband, Ron, in 1965 when both served in the wedding party for Herb Wolfe (Ron’s brother) and Margaret Flett (Eunice’s teaching colleague).
After marrying on Aug. 5, 1967, Eunice and Ron moved to Prince Albert where she continued to teach Grade 2 at Princess Margaret School. The couple welcomed their first child, Leanne, in 1969 while living in Saskatoon. They returned to Grenfell in February 1971 where they opened a retail business they would run for 40 years. During that time, they welcomed two more children, Tracey in 1974, and Cory in 1976.
Eunice was an active volunteer for many years, giving her time to the figure skating club, girl guides and Sunday school. She also enjoyed Spitfire hockey games, dancing, baking, reading and knitting (her needles and yarn were never far away). Eunice loved interacting with customers at the store and, in later years, the local library where she worked part-time. She brought the same kind and gentle demeanour to her role as an Avon representative for more than 35 years, winning many merit and service awards.
Eunice’s greatest joy came from her family – whether that was being a “big sister” to her four siblings, selflessly supporting her children, or having tea parties with her granddaughters and later following their activities in Regina. She took great joy in being surrounded by family and friends when she and Ron celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 5 of this year.
A funeral service will be held in Grenfell United Church on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m., followed by interment of ashes at Grenfell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eunice may be made to Grenfell United Church, Box 658, Grenfell SK, S0G 2B0, or the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 8th St. E, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 0S5.
