John Baptiste Whitehat

July 5, 1953 - February 12, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Baptiste Whitehat on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the age of 59 years. John was predeceased by his father Frank Pelletier; mother Alice Whitehat; and brothers Rodney Whitehat and Joseph Whitehat. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Fanta Vitkauskas-Whitehat; brothers Ambrose Whitehat, Lloyd Whitehat, Bryant Whitehat (Verna); sister Irene Whitehat (Cliff); sons John Lewis, Alvin Lewis, Trevor Lewis, and Presley Thomson; eight grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to mention as well as his beloved dogs Buttons and Princess. John fought a brief but brave battle with cancer and throughout his fight he kept a positive and upbeat attitude. He loved so much to laugh and have good times. He was a solid shoulder to cry on with a caring, listening ear. There will be a traditional wake in the Sakimay Complex, Sakimay First Nation, SK, on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. The feast will be held in the Sakimay Complex on Friday, February 15, 2013 at noon with the funeral service to follow, officiated by the elders. Interment in the New Shesheep Cemetery. The family would like to thank St. Peter's Hospital and the Grenfell & District Pioneer Home for their didicated care of John.
