While we feel immense sorrow, we are comforted in the thought of her joyous reunion with our Dad, Art. Married for 68 years Mom now joins the love of her life. Born in Regina on April 4, 1933 Joyce was the daughter of Annie and William Tomchuk and sister to Ann, Bill, Jack, Pat and Gloria and absolutely adored by each one. Joyce attended Connaught school and Balfour Collegiate and one fun fact was that she was an usher at the Roxy movie theatre. One of her fondest memories was of going all day and night to the exhibition and watching the nightly fireworks from the lawn of their family home as a young girl and with her own children. Art swept her off her feet and at just 17 they married in 1950, a three day affair which made the paper, “Beaded Headdress worn by Bride.” Their lives together began on a farm south of Glenavon before moving into town and later Regina.
Predeceased by her parents, sister Ann, many loving in-laws and daughter-in-law Janet, Joyce leaves to cherish her memory Phillip (Pam), Norman (Brenda), Dianne (Dave) Sim-Moskalyk, Brenda (Wesley) Pander-Stowe and Karen (Albert) Perras. One of the greatest joys of her life were her 18 grandchildren which she showered with deep love and affection and she was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren; we will share her story with them. Auntie Joyce was affectionately loved and her niece Eileen Hinkley deserves a special mention for her devotion. Mom had wonderful relationships with her nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours and everyone was welcome in her home.
Multitalented, Joyce was recognized as the best cook, baker, gardener and crochet artist, winning fair entries and Garden of the Year many times. The love of her family also extended to her community and she worked tirelessly at catering and ironing linens for the church. She will be missed by so many people in Glenavon and Regina. Her beautiful smile, loving, compassionate nature and her wonderful sense of humour is how we will best remember her.
We thank the special caregivers who tenderly took care of Mom at Riverbend and Brightwater. Your hugs and compassion will never be forgotten. We rarely missed a day to be with her and she will be forever cherished.
