Mary Ann Jack passed away peacefully, with her babies holding her hands and her family by her side, in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 57 years.
Our Mom was a woman whose love ran deep and steady. She carried a quiet strength, a gentle spirit and a heart that gave endlessly, even when she had very little for herself. If you knew Mary, you knew kindness. You knew warmth. You knew what it felt like to be cared for in a way that made you feel safe and seen.
She lived her life for her children. No matter what she faced, she made sure her kids were taken care of. Her love was unconditional, constant and unwavering. She was selfless, loving and full of heart.
Mary was blessed with four children, that she carried in her heart every single day. She is reunited with two of her babies, who went before her - her son Devon and her daughter Alyssa.
She leaves behind her daughter Skylar Thomson (Rance) and her son Zane Jack, who will continue to carry her love, strength and teachings; her grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Mathias, Messiah, Major, Courage, Rylan and Doris; along with many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved deeply. She shared a special bond with her precious little grandsons Mekhi and Wylde, who brought her so much happiness and comfort. She also held a special place in her heart for grandson Chauncy, who was always checking in on his Nana, lovingly calling her “nana ooth” (moose).
Mary was deeply loved by her siblings: Bernard “Hoss” Jack (Joanne), Marvin Jack, Kathy Jack (Orval), Elsie Jack, Fayrol Hall (Wayne), Sandra (Jeff), Melda Netmaker (Olu), Susan Jack, Shannon Gush Jack (Dale) and Jason Jack; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Pearl Jack; brothers Harvey Jack and Terry Jack; sister Cherrilyn Jack; children Alyssa Jack and Devon Jack; nieces and nephews: Nikki Jack, Ryesha Netmaker, Rance Netmaker, Drew Jack and Nathaniel (Nate) Jack-Koochicum and grandson Alexander Jack-O’Watch.
Mary was blessed in her life with people who loved and supported her deeply. Her niece Heather was always there, checking in on her, making sure she was cared for and ensuring she had what she needed. Her niece Michelle was someone Mary leaned on, someone she would call for prayer and comfort. Merle Weller showed great kindness by checking in on Mary during her hospital stays, praying for her and staying with her, so her children could rest.
We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Aunty Bucky and Wayne for always being there for our mom. You were her chauffeurs when she needed it, mostly taking her to dialysis and never hesitating to help. Your care and support meant so much to her and to us.
We would also like to thank Requel Medicine Rope for always being there for our mom, checking in on her and helping by picking up her medications. Your kindness and consistency will never be forgotten.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the ladies in the renal unit at the General Hospital and to the MICU staff who cared for Mary with such compassion and dignity. Her nurses: Bailey, Sherry, Kayla, Marcyna, Hannah, Mackenzie (Mac) and Jacia - thank you from the bottom of our hearts for showing our mom such kindness, love and care during her final days.
To her sisters, who always checked in and stood by her, thank you for your love and to Desarae Eashappie, who lovingly called her “Mama Mary”. Thank you for always being there, for checking in on her and for being by Skylar and Zane’s side in the hospital and after her passing. Your presence meant more than words can say.
Mary will be remembered for her big heart, her generosity and the quiet way she loved so deeply. She taught us what it means to take care of one another, to give even when it’s hard and to hold our families close. She was more than our mom - she was our home.
Though our hearts are broken and the pain of losing her feels heavy, we hold tightly to our faith. We know that this is not goodbye forever. We know that Mary has gone home to be with the Lord, where there is no more suffering, no more pain and no more tears.
We take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her children Devon and Alyssa and all her loved ones who went before her. We can imagine her whole again, at peace, embraced in the presence of Jesus, surrounded by love.
The Bible reminds us in John 14:2-3 that Jesus said: “In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you.” We believe that a place was prepared for our mom and she has been welcomed home.
And in Revelation 21:4, it says: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.” This is the peace we hold onto.
Mary’s life reflected love and that love does not end - it carries on through her children, her grandchildren and every life she touched. Her legacy is not only in what she gave, but in who she was.
Until we meet again, Mom… we will carry you with us in everything we do. We will love the way you loved, care the way you cared and hold our family close to the way you always taught us.
Rest in peace, in the arms of Jesus.
