Antoinette is survived by sons Alexander (wife Carol) and Anthony, daughter Leslie (husband John), granddaughter Julia (husband Rodal), grandson Oliver, and many nieces and nephews.
Nettie was born November 19, 1928 in Somerville, New Jersey. Though a child of the Great Depression, Nettie’s childhood was filled with an abundance of love growing up on her family’s small hobby farm and spending time with her older brother, Joe, whom she adored.
Nettie was a devout Roman Catholic, attending St. Elizabeth University from 1946-1950 and New York University from 1950-1952 where as one of a few female scientists, she received a Master degree. Nettie lived in Greenwich Village and in 1952 traveled cross country to San Diego. She met and married her husband, Stewart, in 1954 at St Bridget’s Catholic Church in Pacific Beach, embarking on a wonderful partnership of 67 years until Stu’s passing in 2021.
Nettie worked as an elementary school teacher while raising her family and over the next several years owned and managed Mission Apartments in Pacific Beach and supported her husband and brother-in-law’s Brown & Frank ice cream business.
Always an adventurer, Nettie enjoyed taking her family camping to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, down Baja California in her 71 VW van to follow the whale migration, and to Ecuador to visit son Alex in the Peace Corps. Nettie and Stu briefly lived in Madison, Wisconsin where Nettie went back to graduate school before retiring to San Diego and eventually Las Vegas where she was deeply involved in Christ the King Church. Nettie was a master gardener, and in her retirement years greatly enjoyed playing nickel Keno and “freebie” buffets. In her later years, Nettie and Stu took several wonderful trips throughout the United States, visiting son Tony in Alaska, and backpacking throughout Europe, enjoying the various cuisines of the countries they visited.
In 2016, Nettie and Stewart moved to River Falls, Wisconsin to be closer to family. Nettie enjoyed strolling the back garden, feeding her birds and playing Bingo, where she was known as the Bingo Queen. Nettie received the Last Rites and passed away with family by her side.
There will be a small memorial when the family reunites in 2024.
