Of Cottage Grove
Passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 14, 2012. Born to David and Cynthia (Mariner) Mortrud on July 10, 1970, in Pittsburg, PA. Jon moved to Minnesota in 1984, and graduated from Osseo Senior High School in 1988. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science from Hamline University in 1993; as a member of Theta Chi fraternity, he held many distinguished offices, including President.
Jon was a strong believer in education. He worked hard and achieved an MBA from St. Thomas University in St. Paul in 2011.
Jon met the love of his life, Carrie Dahlquist, in 1994 through mutual friends and started dating in the fall of 1995. The couple was wed on September 20, 1997. Their daughter Josephine Elizabeth blessed their lives in 2003.
After receiving a certification in network systems and Information Technology Security, Jon dived into a career that afforded him and his family numerous opportunities to travel and discover multiple cultures. He most recently served as Chief Information Security Officer at Alliant Techsystems.
Jon seamlessly blended his rich sense of humor, dedication to family, and passion for his work into a full and robust life; he enhanced the lives of those he touched. He relished his role as head cook for family and friends. Jon was an avid golfer and fan of the Red Sox and Vikings.
He was preceded in death by his father David; aunts and uncles: Gerard & Elwood Mortrud, Penny Hodgin, and Pam (Kurt) Hoefflinger; and cousin, Jenny Hoefflinger.
In addition to his wife Carrie and daughter Josephine, Jon is survived by his mother Cynthia Mortrud and step-mother Sharon Mortrud; step-sister Kris Sigurdson; parents-in-law David & Ellie Dahlquist; sister-in-law Sara Dahlquist & brother-in-law Aaron Dahlquist; aunts and uncles: Peter (Betty) Mariner, Karen (Brooks) Howell, Peter (Betty) Mariner, David (Cathie) Mariner, Wayne (Sharon), Mariner, and great-aunt Eleanor Warren; as well as numerous cousins and friends – especially his fraternal brothers who became his lifelong friends. We are deeply grateful for the time we had to share with this fun, amazing guy. Keep a tee time open for us, Jon.
