He then moved to Pittsburgh with his father and at the age of 18 he entered the military where he received an honorable discharge. After leaving the Armed Services, he sought out the sights of the big city and landed in Harlem, New York. It was in New York where he met his life partner and future wife Emma Neal Bell. After meeting her Bennie said that Emma was not easy to forget and always referred to her as his "girl," unfortunately she passed away on November 22, 2006. After their courtship they were married and moved to Manhattan's Lower East Side, where they were raising their 3 daughters Luevenia , Janice and Sharon. Bennie and Emma eventually moved their family into their own home in Jamaica, Queens. Soon after moving to Jamaica, their youngest and only son Cedric was born and Bennie was blessed and began his career with the United States Postal Service. He said he wanted to retire young enough to enjoy his retirement and he did for 30 years enjoying many cruises and trips with his family. During his long life he also attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with his wife for more that 50 years.Bennie Mack Favors was the rock on which his family, friends and community could depend on. Always willing to do much for those who needed help. Many called him "pop" out of respect and appreciation to him. He could keep a secret better than anyone and everyone came to him for advice which, with his many years of experience he would lovingly give. He made the best collard greens you ever tasted, he loved the Blue, black and white movies with influential colored people in them and most of all his family. Bennie Favors was not a rich man, however all were richer for having known him. He often said "we all got to go; we are not here to stay. Still we would have liked just a little more time with him. In his passing he leaves behind 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, many great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and an unlimited amount of friends. Finally his one true hearts desire was to see that his family know the importance of staying together and through his teachings learn the meaning of the word family.
