Janée Joy Sumler, beloved only daughter of Penny Ann and John Sumler departed from us October 4, 2013. Janée kept her Chicago roots all through her college years at Spelman College in Atlanta, where she earned an arts degree, and her formative years in retail in New York.
Her former colleagues describe her as a gifted stylist who started her career as a sales associate working in small boutiques. Through her hard work, dedication, and leadership skills, she landed a prestigious position as assistant manager in high end fashion retail, and she continued on to store manager. Janée was beloved by her staff and made many life-long friendships through her professional career.
While quiet in her own way, Janée was also a force who could be trusted to get things done no matter how hard, and thus made her way through the city. She loved the energy and vibe of New York, enjoyed its delightful cuisine and charm, and saw countless productions of her favorite Broadway show, Rent. She was a valued, trusted and dear friend to many, especially to her beloved Cristian Leoni. Along with her bereaved parents, Janée leaves her heartbroken twin, Johnny, other brothers Belvedere and Michael, a grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many others who have been touched by her sweet and caring spirit, precious laughter and joy. A funeral service was conducted in Chicago last year, and Information about a memorial celebration in New York will be provided when available at a later date.
