Vera Bland was born November 11, 1951 to the late Alexander Bland and Pearlie Bland Darden in Bennettsville South Carolina. The family relocated to Brooklyn NY and later planted roots in Astoria Houses. Vera graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School and began her career in Nursing. She worked many years at Stoney Brooke Hospital and later retired from The Health and Hospital Corporation Coler.
Vera was full of life and brought joy to all in her sight and those that crossed her path, she was respected by many. She was the oldest of six girls. She was predeceased by her (father) Alexander Bland, (mother) Pearlie Bland Darden, (sister) Patricia Williams.
She is survived by her four sisters Helen Bland, Glenda Bland, Sheila Kouakou and Volica Townsend.
Vera Leaves behind her children who she cherished; her daughter Charisse Bland, her sons Jermaine Bland, William Bland, Ronald Branch; grandchildren Glenn Barrett, Tyrisse Barrett Carmel Bland, Shaneisha Bland, Dynasty Bland, Shamar Downing, Keyma Armistead, Shanya Bland, Xaiver Branch; four great grandchildren, nieces, nephew and a host of relatives, and her dear close friends Mrs. Provies and Annie that were by her side to the end, and John (country) who she loved dearly.
