Bruce was an intelligent, determined and strong person. He loved God, his family, his country and the military that protects and serves our great nation.
He was a proud 11B4PX Army Ranger who had served mostly at Ft. Campbell, Ft. Benning, Ft. Lewis and Ft. Richardson. As part of the 101st Airborne, he had also been deployed on several missions to places like Honduras and Grenada. After 10 years of dedicated service, Bruce was honorably discharged due to injury. Even through such difficult circumstances such as amputations, he maintained his strong faith and shared the motto, “every day above ground is a good day.”
He had played football when he was younger and began coaching after his time in the Army. He enjoyed teaching and encouraging children for 30+ years and found joy in some of the most simple things such as punting the footballs with just one leg.
Bruce was a graduate of The Ohio State University and was a lifelong buckeye fan. He was an avid reader and was considered by many to be a history buff. He enjoyed reading on topics such as geography, history and military. He was even selected to be a contestant on Jeopardy, but he wanted to serve his country first before his own needs.
Bruce is preceded in death by his son, Herbert Glenn Howard, and his grandparents, Glenn and Rosalie Gilchrist and Clifton “Shorty” and Lily Howard. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Stephanie Traver Howard; children, Patrick Vincent Howard (Amanda Vivian Howard) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Nicholas Allen Howard of Corpus Christi, Texas, Zachary Ryan Howard of Woodstock, Georgia, Michelle Lorraine Perkins (Alex Perkins) of Hilliard, Ohio and Reagan Leigh Howard of Woodstock, Georgia; daughter in law, Adrianna Howard of Texas; parents, Ronald and Mary Howard of Granville, Ohio; sister, Lisa Ann Howard of Ohio; grandchildren, Dominic, Damien, Alécia, Dhani, Luna, Alexander and Cedric; in laws, Richard Thomas Traver and Jacqueline Louise Traver of Mishawaka, Indiana; sister in laws, Janet Snyder (John Snyder) of Mishawaka, Indiana and Stacy Suski (Jim Suski) of Granger, Indiana; and many nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 1208 Rose Creek Drive Woodstock, Georgia 30189.
