Carmine J. DiSclafani, age 83, of Woodstock, Georgia, formerly of Port Jefferson on Long Island, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2019.
Carmine was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Carmelo DiSclafani and Elvera Brandoniso DiSclafani. He was proud of his Italian heritage and was raised to love the Lord, family and good food. He was also later given the nickname, “The Big Ragu,” by friends.
Carmine had an appreciation of opera and was a devoted family man. He gave his wife and children the joyful life away from the city in the quiet suburbs. He had a daily 5-hour round trip commute on the train to and from work, but was never one to complain.
Carmine had a good sense of humor and didn’t mind being the object of derision to make others laugh. He had a memorable smile and had a gift of lifting others. He cared for others around him and regularly gave his time volunteering. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Counsil 11768 (Woodstock) and Order of Sons of Italy (Marietta).
Carmine was one of a kind and held close to old traditions while embracing new innovations. He was just as likely to be found reading a newspaper as he was quickly learning how to peruse the latest i-phone. He was a huge New York Giants and New York Mets fan and enjoyed model railroad trains as a hobby.
Carmine J. DiSclafani is preceded in death by his parents, Carmelo and Elvera DiSclafani and sister, Teresa DiSclafani Abbate. His memory will be cherished by his wife of nearly 54 years, Annette Benedetto DiSclafani; daughter, Jeannine DiSclafani Brunelle and her husband, Scott; sons, Matthew DiSclafani and his wife, Babetta, and David DiSclafani and his wife, Donna; grandchildren, Brandon and his wife, Cali, Christian, Shamus and Mary; sister in law, Linda Gibbons; nephew, Glen Gibbons and his wife, Danielle; great-nephews, Matthew and Andrew; and many other extended family members.
The DiSclafani family will be receiving friends on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home 8855 Main Street Woodstock, GA 30188. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 4, 2019 at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church 490 Arnold Mill Road Woodstock, GA 30188 with a reception following.
