Carol C. Smelser

Carol C. Smelser, age 77, passed away on July 29, 2014. She was born on February 5, 1937 to Stella and Clayton Cummings of Saginaw, Michigan. Carol married Robert E. Smelser on August 22, 1959. She is fondly remembered as a person who led a life of service to her family, church and community. Carol worked as a nurse for 30 years and was a wonderful, kindhearted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Orville “Joe” Cummings, Shirley Denman and Dorothy Gerow. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband Robert E. Smelser, her sister Maxine Ruegsegger, her children Todd R. Smelser (Mary Judith), Mark D. Smelser (Suzanne) and Michael D. Smelser (Diane), her treasured grandchildren Cassie Evelyn, Garrett Wayne, Samantha Adrienne and Carter Robert, as well as other family and friends, especially her "fourth son" Sam Ruegsegger (Sue) and children Noah, Ben and Paige.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 1:00pm at Woodstock Church of the Nazarene, 874 Arnold Mill Rd, Woodstock, Georgia 30188. Reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the American Diabetes Association in Carol's name.
