Denise Kathleen Carson(Perry), age 70, of Woodstock, Georgia went home to Heaven on Friday, July 11, 2025. Her departure for that perfect place leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of her loved ones and a void in God’s earthly ministries. Denise wanted all to know Jesus, especially those closest to her. Her sermons, though, were preached not from a pulpit, but by the way she lived her life. It was her nature to put the needs of others before her own. For example, she provided generous material support to people she had never met. And, when you visited Denise, she always sent you away with gifts and food and love. That demonstration of love was the behavior that most characterized Denise.
Love for family and care for others were vitally important to Denise (Son David describes his mother as “our Mama Bear, fiercely protective. She would unapologetically do anything to take care of her babies and grand-babies.”), but her love extended beyond humans to Nature, its creatures and their natural habitats. She was ever ready for a grand adventure, best experienced in forests, mountains, beaches, and her own wooded backyard. John Kevin Carson, her devoted husband of forty-seven years, describes himself as Denise’s “wing man” who found great joy in supporting her inspirations with family, with friends, and in the natural world. They were avid campers who toured America with their Wolf Pup travel trailer. Denise, though, did not need to leave home to enjoy nature. She observed and recorded with photos lots of creatures just outside her kitchen windows. Her sister, Gail Peterson, says Denise was an animal “whisperer” who successfully coaxed small, backyard animals to eat from her hands. Most recently, she became friends with a family of barred owls who were displaced from land development nearby but were welcomed to a new home in Denise’s back yard.
Denise Carson was a vibrant, vital, busy person who, besides being a nature-loving grandmother and mother, was an accomplished artist. Her talent has been much-admired and, typical of her humility, she kept much of her work private.
She was a U.S. Army veteran.
Denise is survived by John Kevin Carson, her husband for forty-seven years; daughter Kristen Chizmadia (Josh), children Christian, Kaleb, and Lily; son David Carson (Whitney), child James; son Dylan (Nica); sister Gail Peterson (Bill Gutshall).
A visitation for Denise will be held Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home, Inc., 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM
In honor of Denise, please wear her favorite colors of green, blue, red, and purple.
