Dorothy Jane Severns Vogt, age 92, passed into heaven on November 9, 2015. She was born on December 10, 1922 in Indianapolis, the oldest child of Edwin E. Severns and Ruth Reynolds Severns. After short residencies there and in San Francisco the family moved to Milwaukee where she attended high school and matriculated at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, from which she graduated with a degree in Journalism in 1945. While there she met her future husband, Hugo, who was a naval aviation cadet and varsity football quarterback. They were married in March of 1946 after Hugo was discharged from the Navy, and remained so for 61 years until his death in 2007. They eventually settled in the Philadelphia area where she concentrated on raising her two children. She also volunteered at the local library society and as a teacher’s aide in a Philadelphia inner city school. To avoid becoming a “golf widow” she took up the game in middle age and although she never hit the ball far, to the occasional annoyance of her family, she always hit it strait. She spent her later years in Bradenton, Florida and Canton, Georgia where she enjoyed gardening, church activities and seeing her granddaughters. She is predeceased by her husband, daughter, Rev. Elizabeth Anne Vogt-Woodin and sister, Margaret Salisbury. Surviving her are son, Donald, daughter-in-law, Wendy and granddaughter, Irina of Woodstock, Georgia; and son-in-law, Jerry Woodin and granddaughter, Alexandria Vogt-Woodin of Caldwell, Kansas. Services will be private.
