On the evening of Friday, October 7th, 2016, we lost our beloved Father, Edward John Schrader at the age of 94. Born September 22nd, 1922, our Father lived a wonderful life and near the end, he believed that his time had come to join my Mother, Margaret, in eternal life. Father was the last surviving member of his fellow siblings, who were John Olshefski, Josephine Homanski, Helen McConlogue, Leonard Schrader and his beloved youngest brother, Ray "Babe" Schrader. Our beloved Mother, Margaret, preceded him in death on January 3rd, 2010. He is survived by his son, Eric Schrader and his wife, Agnes, his oldest son, Edward and his wife, Dania and his "adopted" son, John Zanotto, and his wife Catrina of Columbus, Ohio. He made so many wonderful friends over his lifetime and he touched the lives of so many with his thoughtful concern and helpful advice.
Father was gentle, loving and he provided for our family in so many ways. He served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the four masted sailing ship, The Sea Cloud, based in Rockland, Maine and continued to serve as the radar operator on the naval destroyer, The USS Falgout, participating in convoys crossing the Atlantic Ocean to north Africa. He was called back into service during the Korean War aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Wasp.
Father lived through some of the most wonderful times in our country's history. He always said that the most wonderful invention in his life was when the radio was installed in an automobile, yet he lived to see some of the greatest technology. He loved his tablet that opened the world up to him to enjoy long lost songs, videos, and memorable moments of the past. He left a great legacy for all of his family and friends to appreciate and to aspire to continue. As his caregiver with my wife, Agnes, I considered it the highest privilege to be able to care for him during the last years of his life. Father, it is now time to rest in peace. Both Father and Mother will be interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
