Edwin Nichols Whinrey

Mr. Edwin Nichols Whinrey, 83, passed away April 12, 2016. Ed was born on September 5, 1932 in Muncie, IN to the late Robert B. and Janet Nichols Whinrey. He is a graduate of Burris High School. Ed was the valedictorian of his class at Hanover College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He was proud to follow in his father’s footsteps and became a member of Phi Gama Delta. Ed also honorably served for 2 years in the US Army. Ed enjoyed a career of 20 years as an actuary with Equitable Insurance Company. After retiring he played the stocks. He became passionate about the stock market and was successful enough that he did not have to return to a conventional job. He also loved to travel. Ed has been to many countries and 6 of the continents. Ed’s passion was math and numbers. He could remember the dates of any event and even what day of the week it happened on. His mind was truly unique. He was an avid reader and always looked forward to spending time with his family. Ed leaves behind his brother, John Whinrey (Mona), sister, Sarah Warlick (George), nieces and nephews, John Warlick, Robert Warlick (Meredith), Lynn McPherson (Van) and Anne Whinrey, 8 great-nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. A celebration of Ed’s life will be Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 3:00pm at Woodstock Funeral Home. A graveside service will be on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 10:00am at Beech Grove Cemetery, 1400 West Killgore Ave, Muncie, IN 47035, under the direction of Parson Funeral Home, 765-747-1100.
