

Mr. George Arthur Fincher, age 82, of Marietta, Georgia died Thursday, October 13, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:30 am at Woodstock Funeral Home in Woodstock, Georgia with Rev Thomas Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 16th from 2:00 pm until 4 pm and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. He was born December 17, 1928 in Lynchburg, Virginia to James Claude Fincher and Letha O’Dell Fincher. After high school he participated in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league baseball organization. He was a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He graduated from Lynchburg College in 1959 with a B.S. in History-Political Science. He received a Master of Education from the University of West Georgia in 1971 and a Master of Science in 1976. His teaching career included mathematics a J.J. Daniell Middle School in Marietta, Georgia; principal and teacher at East Ellijay Elementary School and coach of the high school baseball team in Ellijay, Georgia; Adult Education for the Cobb County School System for 26 years. He was a marathon runner participating in more than 30 Peachtree Road Races. He enjoyed spectator sports, fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leroy Fincher. He is survived by Frances K. Pruett, Connie and Bobby Davis of Marietta; Kenny and Linda Pruett of Jekyll Island, Georgia; Mark and Sheri Pruett of Jasper, Georgia; brother, Ted Fincher of Lynchburg, Virginia; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
