Gregory James Tanguay, age 59, peacefully departed this world to be with Our Lord on November 6th 2023 surrounded by his wife, father and sister. Greg was born in East Orange, New Jersey to George and Helene (Girouard) Tanguay on February 19, 1964. The family moved to Virginia shortly after and then in 1971 moved to Dunwoody, Georgia.
Although not born here, Greg considered himself a true Southerner. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. After graduating from Peachtree High School, he started working at his father’s security company. He then moved into carpentry where he became an accomplished Master Finish Carpenter. In addition, he was a true handyman with talents in electrical, plumbing, auto mechanics and even tinkered in electronics. Due to his inquisitive and fearless nature, he was willing to plunge into almost any challenge that life presented.
Greg was a kind and gentle soul. He was able to engage with people on any topic. from various backgrounds. Greg never hesitated to share his time and skills helping friends and family. He not only helped with physical things such as home repairs, but also always was there with kind and reassuring words of encouragement and advice. Greg also displayed a great sense of humor. He had a unique gift to find a humorous way to uplift those around him even in most difficult circumstances. He was loving and comforted those close to him who were struggling with life's challenges.
Greg enjoyed the outdoors and frequently took trips to many parts of the US and Canada to go hunting. Although he would laugh at the expense of equipment and travel which sometimes resulted in an unsuccessful deer hunt, he marveled at God's creatures and natural creations. When no longer able to hunt, he still enjoyed watching the deer, fox and other animals in the wooded area around his house. He also loved watching the birds and often spoke of turkeys and woodpeckers from his deck. Greg was genuinely a lover of nature and appreciated all of God's Natural Wonders.
After being diagnosed unexpectedly with a rare illness, Greg accepted this reality with grace, dignity and without complaint. He displayed courage and strength in the most admirable way as the disease progressed.
Greg was a loving husband, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother Helene E. Tanguay, older brother Stephan A. Tanguay and his sister in law, Wendy (Cornell) Tanguay. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Wright) Tanguay, father George R. Tanguay, Celeste M. Tanguay, nephew Michael J. Tanguay, his wife Rachel and their daughter Lillian M. Tanguay. Greg will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.
