

James W. Van Ness, Jr, of The Villages, Florida passed away peacefully at age 75 on January 12th at Tranquility Hospice in his family’s hometown of Marietta while holding the hands of his daughters following a valiant battle against esophageal cancer. A proud and loving father, grandfather, brother and partner, he is survived by his daughters Kristina Cohen (Andrew) and Lisa Sharpenberg (Michael); grandchildren Sadie, Megan, Kinsley, Bennett and Tyler; sister Barbara Robertson (Roger) and her family; partner of three years and caregiver Patricia Santulli; and his faithful canine companion Star. His love of his family including his pups, passion for golf and cheering for the Miami Dolphins and University of Alabama persevere forever in the lives of his family and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 1:00 pm until service time at 3:00 pm at Woodstock Funeral Home 8855 Main Street Woodstock, GA 30188 with Rev. Nancy Folsom Lane officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute at www.cancerresearch.org/ and WellStar Community Hospice at www.wellstar.org/hospice.
