Jean Louise Vernon passed away peacefully on August 20, 2019 at the age of 73. Jeanie was born on March 12, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri, to parents Clemens B. and Myrtle B. Doerhoff. She was the youngest of three girls. Jeanie graduated from Paseo High School in 1964. She worked for The University of Missouri, Kansas City, where she was introduced to the love of her life, John W. Vernon. The two married July 16, 1966. Jeanie went on to work for the American Royal, a private detective, and in August of 1975 started work at United Missouri Bank, (UMB Financial) where she worked for 38 years. On her retirement in 2013, she and John moved to Woodstock Georgia, to be near their daughter and grandsons.
Never one to sit idle, Jeanie took a job as a cafeteria helper at Oak Grove Elementary School in August of 2014. She got to see her grandson, Shawn, every day and loved working with the kids. They loved her as well. When Sam’s Club opened in Woodstock in November of 2015, Jeanie worked as a door greeter. She loved her job, her co-workers, and her members.
Jeanie was an avid scrap booker and created many treasured masterpieces. She loved to spend all day on Saturdays at a crop making her scrap books with her friends. She met so many great people along the way.
She loved Christmas, her birthday, but most of all, her grandsons. You couldn’t find a prouder Mam (the loving name her grandsons bestowed on her). She was on the front row of every school event either one had. She loved watching Zachary march in the band during high school and seeing Shawn run his events at track meets. She loved adventures and our adventures to Krispy Kreme were the things legends are made of.
She laughed, loved and was a great hugger. Her happy personality and hugs will be truly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John of Woodstock, GA, daughter Lara Anne and favorite son-in-law, Mike of Woodstock, GA, grandsons, Zachary and Shawn, sister Kay of Lee’s Summit MO, and sister Mary Jo of Frederica, DE, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 22, from 6pm to 8pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock GA with committal services, Friday, August 23, at 9am at The Georgia National Cemetery, Canton GA.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis TN.
