John was born in Atlanta, Georgia to John G. Chandler of Athens, Georgia and Margaret Milner Chandler of Decatur, Georgia. He was the oldest of 4 children.
He was a graduate of Georgia State University and served in the U.S. Army.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Atlanta, after which he worked in textile sales for Bibb Manufacturing Co. of Macon, Georgia, Jordan Carpet Yarns of Dalton, Georgia and Shaw Industries of Dalton, Georgia.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mary Deaton Chandler.
He is also survived by his children:
* Courtnaye Adams Mills of Virginia, Case Manager for the Community Recovery Program, Piedmont Community Services.
* Lucia Chandler Curry of Washington D.C., high school cheerleading coach and administrative assistant.
*Margaret Chandler Berardelli of Washington D.C., director of annual giving at Wolf Trap
*John Gibson Chandler III of Dalton, Georgia, owner of John's Floors.
*Grace Chandler Mixon of Woodstock, Georgia, an oncology nurse at Kennestone Hospital
*Wiliam Key Chandler of San Diego, California, Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) Second Class Petty Officer, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, United States Navy.
He is also survived by his siblings: Carol Chandler Deaton of Fancy Gap Virginia and Marilyn Chandler Swain of Lincolnton, Georgia.
