Kenneth Dale Hallam, age 75, of Acworth, GA passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, just one day after his 75th birthday. Born in Kansas, he was the first of six children born to Mary Ellen (DeBusk) Hallam, who hailed from Pittsburg, Kansas.
Ken’s family moved to San Angelo, Texas where, until his mid-teens, he regularly helped out by taking care of and cooking for his siblings Tommy Joe, Vicki Sue, Willa Rae, Debra Lee and Harold F., Jr.
Moving to Austin, Texas during his teen years, Ken attended Reagan High School, meeting his first wife, Linda (Plunk) there, attending college and then working for PPG Industries (a glazier business) installing glass in most of the iconic early 1980s Austin skyline’s high-rise buildings. They had two sons together, John and James.
Later moving to Garland, Texas Ken met his second wife, Cynthia (Bohny) and continued working in the building and construction industry as a consultant for commercial buildings’ exterior weather-proofing plans and problem resolutions. They had one son together, William.
As a father he was very involved with his sons in their infancy and toddler years by reading to them, teaching them math ‘songs’, caring for them and playing with them. As his sons grew, they discussed books, authors, philosophy, music and world events - sharing the love of Kurt Vonnegut and of science fiction stories. Watching films at the local movie theater was a favorite pastime – that then led to much discussion of story and character development, direction, script perspective, and overall impact.
Facetiming with granddaughter Elizabeth was a treasured event. In her early years she thought he was Santa on the iPhone screen. In elementary school years they played word games together via the wonderful world of technology.
Ken enjoyed cooking and developed his own flavor/flair, including a much-appreciated style of salad that was purely his own creation. He even tried his hand at bread-making and grinding his own flour. Through the years, Ken learned a lot about nutrition and how to stabilize his personal health issues.
One month before his passing, Ken and all of his sons were able to be together again at the wedding of William and Rose (DiRegolo) in Sacramento, CA. This fulfilled a long-time dream of his for all of them to be together again. It was a wonderful event and enjoyed by all.
Ken leaves behind his wife Cindy (Acworth, GA), son William and wife Rose (Grass Valley, CA); son James, wife Jennifer and granddaughter Elizabeth (Marble Falls, TX); John, wife Ann, grandchildren Ben, Sam and Kathryn (Austin, TX); sisters Vicki Becvar (Dayton, TX), Willa Milburn (Austin-area, TX), and Debra Gilbreath (Austin-area, TX); brothers Tommy and wife Helen (Austin, TX) and Harold (Cedar Park, TX), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christ Church Kennesaw, in memory of Ken Hallam.
A visitation with the family and memorial service will be held at a future date.
Arrangements are being handled by Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188.
