It was May 23, 1957, when I first met my one and only baby sister – Nancy. She was about five minutes old when I first
held her . . . and I was hooked forever! I was 15 at the time and had been waiting for a sister to come into my life for as
long as I can remember. Mom had four miscarriages before Nancy arrived. Because Nancy was always so bubbly,
laughing and smiling, she quickly erased all the pain we had been suffering during those miscarriages.
Nancy and I celebrated her 64th birthday together at lunch this year, just a few days before she passed away. I am so
glad we had that private time with each other and that I was able to remind her one more time that she was well worth
the 15-year wait!
From day one, Nancy was a bundle of energy, curiosity and joy! We shared the best of times together when she was a
child, even while I was doing my homework. I still remember racing home from school every day to play with her. She
thought “playing homework” with me was great fun, especially when she would grab a crayon or two and color the
report I had to turn in the next day! (There were no computers or typewriters in those days. Everything was
handwritten!) Mom and Dad never had to worry about a baby sitter either! Nancy and I were inseparable and have been
close all our lives. They also chose the perfect name for my sister. She truly was “Nancy with the Laughing Face” and will
live in my heart forever.
Our Dad was a wonderful musician and frequently sang and played Frank Sinatra’s hit song “Nancy” on the piano for our
family. We all sang along. Yes, Sinatra’s song says it all. Thankfully, I will always have funny and delightful memories of
Nancy to carry in my heart for the rest of my life. I pray they will dim the pain and emptiness I feel today, now that she
has moved on. I miss her terribly already. She always fills the room without even trying, so I am pretty sure that she will
give the angels a few laughs and they will welcome her home.

To Carole, I am so sorry for the sudden loss of your sister.
She was always very knowledgeable and helpful.
I hope you and Ken are doing well.
I will keep you and her children in my prayers.
