Opal was born to Elmer and Emma Mitchell on December 21, 1932. She was one of three children and was known for her adventurous spirit. She was fearless and lived her life to the fullest. After graduation, Opal moved to Atlanta with her two best friends.
She married John E. Ransom, and they had three children: Jan, Mitch and Kirk. She worked hard as an executive secretary for the president of Equifax for many years. She was a strong, classy woman who never complained about being a single mom, often going without herself in order to raise her children. She attributed the good nature that her children maintained to the grace of God.
Opal was a kind-hearted woman and faithful friend being loved by many and maintaining lifelong friendships. These included her “sister” Mimi, as well as Brenda, Carolyn, Betty, Mignon, and Delores. Her most valued relationships were those with her children.
Opal was a wonderful, loving mom and best friend to her children and will be missed more than words can express. She was devoted to the Lord and honored Him by serving as an outreach minister at her church. She donated to various charities regularly, her favorite being St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Opal is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Emma Mitchell; brothers, Herschel Mitchell and Ed Mitchell; fiancée, Minto Gilstrap; and grandson, Jeremiah Ransom.
