Rebecca Elizabeth Valentine – “Betty” – was born on May 7, 1948 in St. Catherine Parish in Jamaica, West Indies to parents Harold and Violet, the fourth child of thirteen. She completed her work on Earth on October 14, 2023.
An absolute beauty inside and out, Betty was a spitfire, with an encouraging smile for everyone and a sunny optimistic outlook on life with the energy of three Betty’s rolled into one! Her huge heart and capacity to love unconditionally naturally attracted others to her especially animals and babies.
Betty made her living in the banking industry her entire career earning many accolades for exemplary production and superior customer service. Simply, she loved helping people, and she was keenly aware that her real job – no matter her title – was to be in service to others. She tried her hand at retirement about five years ago, watched everything on Netflix and planted every square inch of her garden, then returned to the career field she loved within six months, and worked until her last day here.
When not at the bank or in her garden, Betty would be in her kitchen cooking up delicious Jamaican cuisine, chatting it up on the phone with her beloved family, or plotting to steal the T.V. remote control away from Kingsley, her husband of 47 years, all while sipping on a soothing cuppa. She was the confidant that loved ones could come bare their souls to without judgement, and receive back quiet wisdom, guidance and loving support.
Our beautiful, vibrant, compassionate, faithful, indomitable Betty has left an indelible imprint on all our hearts which we will carry with us forever. In addition to her husband, Kingsley Sr., Betty is survived by her children Mark, Kingsley Jr., Simone, and Andrew; grandchildren Avery, Kaya, Kingsley Michael, Lucas, and Nicholas; siblings Joyce, John, Hermoine, Edith, Eric, Cislyn, Marion, Sonia, Charlton, Myrtle, and Yvonne, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will begin at 11 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 in Woodstock Funeral Home, located at 8855 Main Street Woodstock, Georgia 30188, with the funeral service to follow at 1pm.
