Robert (Bob) Jay Richie, age 75 of Woodstock GA passed away in his home on May 24, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Bob was the son of Simon Richie and Pauline Allen Richie. After spending most of his early childhood in Dunbar, West Virginia, the family moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan where Bob started school. He attended Roosevelt High School and later Eastern Michigan University.
His career path in sales relocated him to Lawrenceville GA where he raised his family and enjoyed his ALTA tennis calendar and network of tennis friends. There he honed his skills as a talented chef and a consummate host.
Bob remained steadfastly “Pure Michigan” and enjoyed many return trips Michigan to reunite with friends and family over the years. He joked that he knew each service plaza on I-75. He was a loyal University of Michigan fan. In Woodstock, Bob reveled in relaxing on his boat on Lake Allatoona with friends and a glass of wine or planning his next travel. Bob enjoyed service to his community as a member of the Optimist Club of Towne Lake.
Bob’s life was defined by his kindness and his humor. All enjoyed his wit, especially his offbeat cartoons. He remained a “glass half full” guy throughout his life. His easy conversation and empathy made Bob many friends. So today we all mourn this loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, but hopefully find joy in the good times shared and the legacy he leaves behind.
Bob is survived by his wife Nancy McCarthy of Woodstock, GA, son Dave Richie (wife Melissa Richie) of Colorado Springs, CO., daughter-in-law Debra Richie, stepchildren Shane (husband Gibbs Lott) of Richmond VA, and Ian McCarthy of Las Vegas NV, six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, John Paul Richie. He leaves behind his loyal pet Zella.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 1:00pm at Towne Lake Hills Clubhouse, 1007 Towne Lake Hills East, Woodstock, GA. Kindly RSVP to [email protected].
