Terri,  

We are so sorry to hear about Steve. You two were absolutely wonderful people! I cherish our trip, and like you, I doubt I will ever be able to top it! Funny how many memories I have of someone I just met!  I will remember Steve being the "man purse holder" while we trekked up the Leaning Tower of Pisa...and yelling "Hi" to him from the top!  And then when he jumped out of the van to help that motorcyclist that got hit by the car.  I love the picture of him, Kurt, and Bob at the Hercules arch doing their best "strong man" impression!  Then getting a picture of him in front of what was the hospital in ancient Turkey. And when he had to run back onto the ship to change from shorts to pants because we were going to the Vatican and he couldn't wear shorts inside.  Of course, there is me taking pictures of you and Steve and then you taking pictures of Kurt and I.  I am so glad that we were able to meet up and share our wonderful trip with you and Steve....and Dawn and Bob too!!  I just love when fate brings people together.

Dear Terri,

Bob and I are deeply saddened to hear about Steve's passing. I can still see him sitting at the base of the Leaning Tower carrying all of our purses. We had so much fun with both of you on our trip. 

We will remember you both in our thoughts and prayers.

Steve brought so much to our family and I am so blessed to have so many great (and unique) memories of him. I remember after dinner was over he'd stand at the kitchen sink and eat the leftovers before we had time to put them away. And when I still lived at home, we'd make cookies for each other... often. I remember sitting in the living room and hearing him blare his rock albums in the basement. He was so smart and knew so much about so many different things... now I wish I would have paid more attention when he told his stories!  

He was quirky, had a unique (corny) sense of humor, and was always willing to help. He taught me to get off the beaten path and explore. Most importantly, he brought so much happiness to my mom. 

Sheve, I miss you and I can't wait to see you in Heaven. Save me a cookie.

We didn't know Steve very well, but were so glad to have had FEAST with Terri and Steve!

I loved sitting behind you and Steve in church and seeing the loving touches between you. Your love for one another was evident to all.

Our favorite memory of Steve is seeing his joyful smile each Sunday morning and him keeping that smile on his face as he received the chemo treatments. Steve never let it show, never let it defeat him. His kindness shone in his smile and from his eyes.

My favorite memories of Steve:

There are so many mostly associated with projects started and never finished. 

--hanging sheet rock in basement--Steve asked me to help so I go thinking of an all day job, mudding, etc. we hung two sheets and quit. 

--carrying rocks to back for lower patio but never finished.

--laundry room redesign-- never finished.

--landscaping-sprinkler, etc, never finished.

--Bronco fix up--never finished..

--His love for Terri. 

--Stopping on our hike to a waterfall in TN and giving his water to an elderly man who was having a hard time.

I will always remember Steve's kindness in helping me deal with my arthritic knees. When he and Terri were greeters at church, Steve would come to help me get out of my car. Always so kind. 

I also remember Steve and I discussing bread-making. He gave me his recipe for using a bread-baking machine and told me where to buy flour. He was such a dear, and I will miss him.

My favorite memory of Steve is the wonderful time we had at Katie's wedding rehearsal dinner. It was the first time I was able to spend some time with Steve and get to know him. He was a natural Bahamas Breeze kind of guy and a good friend. God bless!

My favorite memory of Steve was always lending a helping hand to assist Beth and Bebe get out of the church and into a car. Always a gentleman.

I will always remember all of our couples trips to various places!!  We had so much fun laughing, talking and just spending time together! Steve was always the life of the party!  His smile, laughter and funny jokes were awesome!  He had the best personality and kept us going!!  Love our sunsets at BrasstownBald!!  We will truly miss you buddy!  Love ya!

Unfortunately for Bill and I we didn't know Steve well. After this beautiful (memorial) service we know him now. 

Terri, I wish we could have gone to Alaska together. We'll definitely do dinner in Heaven. How wonderful that will be. Everyone talked about his sense of humor and quirkiness. That we knew!  We love you!

My favorite memory of Steve is his smile and laugh and how happy he made you!  We were blessed to have known him!

I will always remember Steve for his smile and the way he would greet you. He would always do this Japanese half-bow thing that I envision is the way two neighboring kings would greet each other. Also, his appetite at FEAST. The man could put away some food!

My favorite memory of Steve was at his and Terri's wedding reception. They were so much in love and I could tell that Steve made Terri the happiest woman in the world. Even though I only saw him a handful of times, I know that at his memorial service they nailed the person Steve is in this world and in heaven. God bless Steve and his family.

My memories of Steve are all the times I picked upBray or dropped him off at Gigi and Steve's. I feel I knew Steve through Bray's eyes. God Bless!

Besides Steve being so kind, sweet and faithful, I will always remember those wonderful hugs he shared after church.

I worked with Steve as a visiting nurse. I was one of the "hens" in the office as he liked to call us!  I can't tell you the number of times he would arrive in the afternoon to begin his shift and we would be all stressed out about this or that and just him walking I the door would change things. "Steve-O"! We would cry and he would do something silly or tell us a dumb joke and the atmosphere would lift. He had a way of bringing perspective that most of what we worry about is small stuff--life is to be lived and enjoyed. I will never forget his ways and will try to hold onto that lesson. Bless you!

My favorite memory of Steve was when he first went to work at Camellia Home Health. I was worried, mad, concerned when he did not return from a "routine" admission with a therapist....  Hours late he returned dirty, hot, tired, but very pleased with himself. He had spent his afternoon installing an air conditioner for the patient!  I have never met a more generous nurse in my 25 years in home care. Our next meeting we celebrated his care by giving him a "tool belt" with odd, assorted, tools for future endeavors. I will miss him!

I always enjoyed my time working with Steve at Camellia. He always entertained me and made sure that I remembered to stop and eat, especially when pregnant. He became fondly known as "Carmelita" after a lunch at Shoguns when the chef thought we were named Camellia because of our uniforms. He told Steve he would just call him Carmelita!  After I left Camellia, I would get the occasional text from my "friend Carmelita!"  He will be missed, but forever loved and NEVER forgotten!

My favorite memory of Steve is the Bethlehem Walk. He was always ready and willing to help!

I am so glad Steve and Terri didn't follow the rules that one night and got together.  Turns out it was a great match...and thus, we met Steve.  Steve was a quirky, goofy, friend of ours.  He would turn up on our porch to see if Alan had had his coffee yet.  :)  He liked going to 'Donny's' and cabins in the mountains with us.  We have many great memories of times spent together.  Of course, I can't think of Steve without thinking of that 'impish' grin and the shoulder shake when he laughed, which was often!  Steve always had some quirky thing to say.  You didn't know whether to believe him or maybe didn't even understand his humor...but that didn't stop Steve.  We will miss you my good friend, Steve.  Terri, we are here for you anytime-big or small. Love you both.

I still can't believe my dear friend has gone. May Terri, Carolyn, John, Martha, Mary, Mike & Celeste and all their loved ones be comforted by the greatness of his life and the love of all his friends. He truly deserves his eternal reward.

Steve was my good friend and neighbor.  His quirky and corney humor will be missed.  I was always amused by his ideas and projects that somehow never got finished- there was always tomorrow.  He loved Terri very much and to the end was worried about her and her well being.  May your memories live on.

Of all who I went to school with at Hogan, Steve was the one who stayed in my heart and made the effort to keep in touch throughout all the years.  He made multiple trips to the West coast to spend time with me and others. Steve and I spent more time together after Hogan than while we were there.  We played baseball together, we traveled together, we rafted together, we reflected on life together, and we shared our appreciation of great music, great friends, and good times. Steve was a great friend.  He always found the humor and he always asked the right questions about why things were the way they were and why not look at them differently. He helped me train for a marathon, riding and running with me, just to hang out.  He pursued his interest in geology and turned it into a career and then returned to school and completely changed his profession to medicine. I admired him for his creativity. I know he is at peace now and I thank him for having shared so much with me during his life.

Steve became one of my best friends and will be missed very much. I was blessed to have known him. He was a great person, friend, coworker, and family man. We went hiking in North GA, enjoyed being with him in St. Thomas, Hawaii, or just hangin out. I miss you buddy.

A privilege to reconnect with Steve this past year.  So sorry his trip to Alaska did not come to fruition this month.  The guest room was ready.  In an email last year he quoted from Joni Mitchel's Woodstock - "We are stardust.  We are golden."  And he said he was aging gracefully.   I think Steve lived gracefully.  Even in high school, such a gentle soul.  My sympathy to the Seward family.  He is stardust.  He is golden.  And he is back in the garden.

Steve was one of the first of our group from Bishop Hogan to turn 16. He would borrow his dad's car and we would ride around hitting all the hot spots. The Landing, Kings Foods, Smacks, Park Davis, Holmes Park, 69th and Elmwood, Whimpies etc. He would collect .25 from each of us to replace the gas so his dad would allow him to use the car another night. We sure had fun. God bless!  Keeping the Seward family in our prayers.

I was glad to see everybody at the 40th reunion and we all seem to have a great connection and really had a great time that night. 
Steve will be sorely missed! May God bless his family. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Nancy and I will  treasure  forever our fond memories of Steve, from Thanksgiving dinners to many years  together at Mt.View United Methodist Church.I had the privilege and joy of spending many precious hours with Steve when I would take him to his treatments at Piedmont Hospital every Tuesday, or taking his family back to the airport.It was then that I got to learn so much more  about his early years and occupations.I will never forget the courage and grace he exhibited  throughout this ordeal, as well as the warm bonds he formed with other patients in the waiting room.
I will always treasure those last weeks spent with him, and will always remember his smile, jokes and sense of humor that never seemed to wane through it all.I will always be grateful for  the blessing of Steve's friendship and the lessons learned on his path Home.

Until we meet again...

I was privileged to know Steve as a valued classmate and teammate at Bishop Hogan High School.  The fact he chose nursing as a profession and worked in hospice care speaks to his gentle and caring nature.  I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to see Steve at our 40th high school reunion in September, 2012.  His is a life well worth celebrating.  May God bless Steve and all his family.  My wish for the Seward family is the strength you need to see you through your grief.

Exploring the storm sewers under Cleveland Avenue.
Little League at 69th and Elmwood.
The hidden room above the stage at St. Louis grade school.
Boston Baked Beans before basketball practice.
Sneaking out the window after midnight at the house on Indiana.
Working the concession shack at Southeast League games.
Burning out the clutch on the 63'impalla.
My first (and last attempt at riding a dirt bike.
A brave young man who could smile and endure such troubling physical problems at a young age.
A great friend no matter how far the miles or how long the years.

I have only fond memories of Steve and the Seward family. May he rest in peace. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so happy I attended our 40th reunion last summer.  Seeing everyone was such a gift we all gave to one another.  As I was leaving Steve was outside and both Teresa and I stopped and visited with him.  Wow! there was another gift.  Steve, you were a gentleman and I am very happy and blest to have known you and to have reconnected with you even for that one evening.

Steve was an exceptional friend.  We made fun of each other consistently; me, with my 'Chicken head' cowlick and Steve, the original bobble head (nicknamed 'Bobbles' by Brad Barackman).  His most outstanding characteristic was his great smile and dry humor.  His humor was so dry that he would wait for someone to 'get it,' before he allowed himself to 'enjoy the moment.'  Kind, considerate, genuinely outgoing, funny and caring.  He was a joy to be around.  
His sweet jump shot was 'spot on' as well and he rebounded with great abandon.  If memory serves me correctly, our senior year we were 10-4 until Steve realized his couldn't continue and we went downhill after his and Brad's departure.  But he was always there with encouragement for the team,
even though we knew how much it hurt him not to be able to play and contribute his senior year.

He had a rough go since Senior Year when his initial medical problems arose.
Still he volunteered in the Math Center to help struggles students.  Phil Klukow (sp) and he were the funniest and informed tutors.  They would entertain the students and teach them at the same time, without them knowing they were learning.

Steve will be sorely missed.
