AVIS DE DÉCÈS
Sylvia T Sepulveda
18 janvier , 1946 – 1 octobre , 2019
Sylvia Theresa (Cortez) Sepulveda, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 after fighting a courageous battle from diabetes-related heart and kidney issues. Sylvia was born January 18, 1946 in Houston, TX to the late Hortense (Franco) Cortez and Thomas Cortez. She attended San Jacinto High School and graduated in 1963. Sylvia was a fashion setter and loved to coordinate all of her accessories to match with every outfit she wore. Therefore, working at Lerner’s (aka New York and Co.) gave her the opportunity to work in the retail business and purchase everything she needed to always look like a million dollars! And, it was in the Lerner’s shoe department that Sylvia met her future husband, Daniel Sepulveda! A handsome young man, Sylvia fell head over heels over Danny and they married in a beautiful ceremony at St. Patrick’s Church on June 8, 1969. Sylvia and Danny lived in the Garden Oaks area in Houston, TX and started a family soon after getting married. Together, they had three children, Leonard, Deborah, and Daniel Jr. After living in Houston for a few years, Danny’s job with Gulf Oil transferred them to Stone Mountain, GA. Sylvia and Danny settled into a home that Sylvia decorated beautifully. It was Sylvia’s calling….sewing and making all kinds of beautiful crafts for her home, her family, and friends. There was nothing she enjoyed more than being a housewife, cooking fantastic meals for Danny and the kids (and later grandkids), and making all kinds of beautiful crafts! When the grandkids started coming, Sylvia was always buying gifts and spoiling them like nothing you can imagine! She loved spoiling them and buying them whatever they wanted, especially if they spent time with her at her house! I remember her sharing stories of things she had made or bought and it was always for her grandkids. She also spoiled her mom and siblings by mailing packages filled with homemade items from Georgia to Texas! If you knew Sylvia, you knew that she loved to travel to Texas whenever the opportunity arose, but not just to visit her family! She loved Whataburger and she always made it a point to stop there and carry home a few Whataburger’s to eat later in Missouri or Georgia! True story! Later in life, Sylvia and Danny moved again with Danny’s job to Creve Coeur, Missouri. After Danny Sr. passed away in 2009, Sylvia moved into a small duplex, but stayed in the Missouri area to be close to her youngest son, Danny Jr. and her granddaughter, Syaira. When Sylvia could no longer look after herself, she moved to Brookdale Retirement Home in Woodstock, GA where she would be closer to her daughter, Deborah Kellogg and her family. Due to her deteriorating health issues in recent months, Sylvia was moved to Signature HealthCare and then hospice, but remained in GA with her family at her side until her death. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel L. Sepulveda, her parents Hortense (Franco) Cortez and Thomas Cortez, and her brothers, David Thomas Cortez and Roland Gilbert Cortez. She is survived in death by her sons Leonard Sepulveda (Sharon) and Danny Sepulveda Jr., and daughter Deborah Kellogg and husband (Kito), nine grandchildren, Dustin, Casey, Keegan, Chris, Cameron and wife (Aurora), Sedene (Pooh), Andrea and husband (Justin), Syaira, Amari, and three great-grandchildren Trey, Ava, and Justin. She is also survived by her Sisters, Alma Luera, Nancy Ramirez and husband (George), Alice Olivas, and Brother, Louis Cortez and his wife (Mary). Sylvia is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. The family will receive family and friends at 11:00 a.m. for a memorial service on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4918 Cochran Street, Houston, TX 77009. A Celebration of Life reception will also be held in Sylvia’s honor immediately after the memorial service in the St. Patrick Reception Hall (adjacent to church). The family wishes to extend their heart-felt thanks to staff at the Brookdale Retirement Home, Signature Health, and all family and friends for their support and assistance during this time. We ask that everyone remember Sylvia as she was….beautiful, full of life and energy, and the best friend anyone could have with a very candid and humorous spirit!
