Thomas J. Cherry, age 80, of Woodstock, Georgia, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018. Tom had one brother, Pete, and three sisters, Suzanne, Barbara and Dorothy. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School where he began to play semi-pro hockey. He was also a member of the 82nd airborne as a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict. After his time in the military, Tom taught parachuting to countless people. He was a great teacher because he was personable and funny. As a safety manager for Rollin’s Truck Leasing, he taught CDL safety lessons and somehow managed to keep everyone involved and even entertained. Tom was also good with his hands and helped finish cement driveways with his cousin. He found joy in traveling around the world especially places where he could enjoy the great outdoors. Tom was an avid fisherman and camper and especially enjoyed his trips to Canada with his grandchildren. Tom’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Catherine Granville-Cherry; daughters, Dee Anne Martin (Eddie) and Shelly Magyar (Robert); stepdaughters, Lisa Granville-Dirker and Lynn Granville; stepson, Ned Granville (Anne); sister, Dorothy Cherry Pape; grandchildren, Ryan Martin, Nick Granville, Caitlin Granville, Victoria Magyar and Robert Magyar Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Brynlee Martin and Ellison Martin. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until service time at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Woodstock Funeral Home 8855 Main Street Woodstock, Georgia 30188. Committal Services will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road Canton, Georgia 30144.
