In his earlier years, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army as an E-4 Military police officer, serving in the USA and Korea from 1964 to 1966, receiving an honorable discharge. After his military service, Jim began his career with the NYPD, where he proudly served for 25 years. He rose through the ranks, retiring as a Police Captain, a testament to his hard work and dedication.
Jim was a devoted Catholic and an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Within the church, he was deeply involved as: a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Hospice, Adoration (the 3am shift), and served many meals at the Soup Kitchen, and Fish Fry.
Over the years, within his community he was a volunteer in various organizations: Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Mended Hearts, Magic of Life, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, The Georgia Cancer Foundation, Northside Hospital Auxiliary member, and Camp Hope. In addition, Jim was an Ambassador at Wellstar Hospital and founded a support group for cancer patients. Some of Jim’s favorite pastimes included: Breakfast with ROMEO’S (Retired Old Men Eating Out), meeting up with his buddies at BoJangles and Chick-Fil-A, playing cards, Texas hold’em/poker, playing BINGO, and watching old movies. As a proud Italian, Jim loved a good slice of Johnny’s New York pizza and raved about their lasagna to anyone listening. His hobbies included: fishing, watching the Atlanta Braves play, singing Karaoke, dancing, attending the circus, going to the beach, BBQ’s, and parades. He was a talented painter and often gifted others with his beautiful works of art. He took advantage of any opportunity to celebrate life with family and friends.
Jim had a fond appreciation for nature. He cared for and fed the following animals in his yard (a family of deer, bunny rabbits, birds-just to name a few). ALL creatures of God. He was a proud patriot and had a deep love for his country. Jim was such a bright light, loved by everyone and brought smiles to so many faces. He was always cracking jokes and telling stories. He had a positive spirit and loved to socialize. He was gentle and kind. He touched the lives of every person God sent his way. Jim had a remarkable ability to connect with people. Everyone he met instantly became a friend. He was truly the life of the party,
always bringing laughter and joy to those around him.
Just recently, Jim embraced his new home at Holbrook, where he was welcomed with open arms. He made wonderful friends and was surrounded by love. He ended his journey in celebration, a fitting tribute to a life well lived to the fullest. On the night he passed, Jim was attending a Holbrook party for May birthday celebrations. Jim was dancing the night away. He requested to hear his favorite song “Celebration” by Kool and The Gang. After dancing to the song, Jim sat down to rest. It was at this time that God called our beloved Jim to be with Him in Heaven.
Jim’s passing leaves a void in our hearts, but his memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter and service will continue to shine brightly in our lives.
