

Bruce Emery, age 87, passed away peacefully at home in Columbus, Ohio, on February 24, 2026. On August 12, 1938, Bruce was born in Marion, Ohio, to Robert and Ruth (Harmon) Emery of Prospect, Ohio. He cherished his years growing up in Prospect - particularly being on the track, baseball, and basketball teams. One of his proudest memories was when the baseball team played in the 1956 state championship game.
Bruce graduated from Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University and served the Worthington City Schools for over 35 years as a teacher, principal, and Director of Elementary Education. He was named a principal at the age of 25. He was a Gold Coat president of the Worthington Sertoma club and received a Distinguished Service Award from the Worthington Jaycees for community contribution.
Throughout his adult life, he participated in softball, running, tennis, golf, reading, and following Ohio State sports. He was blessed with many friends and was privileged to work with many outstanding educators. He was always considerate to others and was devoted to the Worthington Schools and York Golf Club. He was very proud of the academic and athletic accomplishments and values of his children and grandchildren and loved being with them. After retirement, he spent many months in The Villages, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol Wasserbeck Emery, children Nancy (Horia) Neamtu, Karen Jones, Scott (Wendy) Emery, and his six wonderful grandchildren Sarah (Robert) Emery-Crum, William (Brynlee) Emery, Grace Emery, Nicholas Neamtu, Natalie Neamtu, Maya Jones, and great-granddaughter Charlotte Emery. He is also survived by sisters Elinor Rambo and Marcia (Rodger) Burden and brother-in-law Harold (Harriet) Wasserbeck.
At a later date, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Worthington United Methodist Church.
