

Bruce Taylor Richardson, of Columbus, passed away on May 29, 2025. Bruce was born March 16, 1944, in Cambridge, MA to his parents, Harvey and Myra Richardson. Bruce was a graduate of San Jose State. In May of 1965, He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 2 years active and 4 years in reserves. He served on the S.S. Ajax in Japan and Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal for his service to his country. On May 8, he was able to travel with his fellow Columbus Veterans on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
Bruce was a sportswriter and a NASCAR driver and began racing in the early 70’s in the SCCA series. Though not the best racer, his influence as a sports writer led him to sponsorship deals in the NASCAR West series. He also raced in the NHRA for a brief period at local tracks in Northern California.
Bruce was a member at St. Elizabeth Parish and St. Peter Parish, Columbus.
Bruce is survived by his wife Gloria Richardson, sons Dan (Jennifer) Mobley and Michael (Sherry) Mobley; stepdaughter Michele (Doug) Donavan; stepson Christopher Gilkerson (Susan Mathews); grandchildren Hunter, Dominique, Michael, Lindsay, Aidan, and Gavin; great grandchildren Hayley, D’Angelo and Lorenzo; sister Ellen Richardson Norby; niece Lisa Richardson Giacchetto; nephews Scott (Colleen) Richardson and Skip Richardson; and cousin John Richardson. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Ashley, brother Skip and nephew Todd.
He will be missed for his kindness, generosity, big heart and his smile which could light up the room.
Bruce’s family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26 from 5pm to 7pm at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N. High St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 27 at 10am at St Peter Catholic Church, 6899 Smoky Row Road with graveside services at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following.
