Colin Perry Cross, 53, of Westerville, OH, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 surrounded by his family and friends after a brief battle with cancer. Colin grew up in Columbus, OH, attending Bishop Watterson High School, where he played soccer and graduated in 1989 (aka "Lance"). He attended The Ohio State University (Phi Delta Theta fraternity) and pursued his education in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture.
Colin had a passion for plants, especially new varieties of hostas. He was always eager to tell you the history of the plant and its Latin name. Colin had an extensive career at Ciminello's Landscape Design. Followed by a successful business venture with his brother, Kyle Cross, called Creative Colors (landscape services). He then moved on to 15 years of service with The City of Westerville where he was awarded twice with the Westerville Outstanding Worker Award- Once for saving a distressed pre-schooler wandering a busy street, and another for saving an older man who fell into a retention pond while fishing with his grandson.
Colin's special interests included coin collecting, fishing, and hunting; with expeditions to Honduras with his dad and brother to hunt doves. He was also an extensive reader and a favorite book was "African Game Trails", by Teddy Roosevelt.
While his work was important, Colin's family came first. He was married to the love of his life and his best friend, Kristine, for 25 years. His children Alex and Caroline meant everything to him. He helped coach their youth sports teams, and was known as "Boss Cross" to all. He brought energy and enthusiasm on and off the field with his loud voice and hype. He was so extremely proud of his children.
Colin’s infectious personality and passion for life attracted characters from all walks. He never met a stranger, had no issue speaking his mind and was the life of EVERY party.
When Colin was not on the sports fields for his children’s games, he was at his firepit with Kristine talking and laughing with family and friends.
Colin is survived by his wife, Kristine Cross; children, Alexander and Caroline Cross; mother, Rosalyn Cross; brother Kyle (Beth) Cross, and sister Julia Kise; numerous nieces and nephews, and loving in-laws.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pheasants Forever (https://www.pheasantsforever.org/default.aspx) or the family would encourage you to plant a beautiful Hosta in your yard and appreciate it year after year in honor of Colin.
