As a child, Don spent countless hours at the fire station in Copperas Cove alongside his father, experiences that helped shape his strong work ethic and sense of community. During his high school years in both Texas and Minnesota, he was actively involved in athletics, participating in track, basketball, and football.
After graduating, Don continued his love of sports by playing on numerous softball teams over the years and later serving as an umpire. He took great pride in his work, no matter how big or small his contribution may have been. Throughout his career, he brought dedication and skill to several companies, including construction work, HTI, SpaceX, and most recently serving as a Foreman for Burns & McDonnell, a role that took him to projects in different states.
While living in Minnesota, Don welcomed two children, Tiffany and Christopher, and also became a proud bonus dad to Jennifer and Jamey. Their family shared many adventures together, spending time camping, hunting, fishing, and exploring the beauty of the state.
In 2012, Don moved back to Texas and later married Jacqulin Beloat on March 28, 2014. Through this marriage he became a bonus dad once again to Michael, Aubrey, Amber, and Tommy. Don and Jackie settled in rural Central Texas, where he built their forever home with the help of his father-in-law Joe Beloat, his brother James, and his bonus son Tommy.
While living there, Don’s love for the outdoors continued to grow, along with his well-known enjoyment of searching for Big Foot. Above all, he cherished his grandchildren and took great joy in following their interests—whether it was sports, hobbies, or simply playing whatever game they wanted to play.
Don will be dearly missed by his wife, Jacqulin; daughter, Tiffany (Terry) Molitor; bonus children, Jamey (Rachel) Walter, Jennifer (Barry) Odegard, Michael Harris, Kelly (Daniel) Mortensen, Aubrey (Erik) Carroll, Amber Ward, and Tommy (Emily) Ward Jr. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Lena, Owen, Jace, Braya, Landon, and Micah of Minnesota; and Kenneth, Madison, Travis, McKenzie, Brynlee, Rhett, Tambrey, Taelynn, Logan, and Caleb of Texas.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Spears; his sister, Janet Spears Beloat; and his parents, Dickie and Tommie Spears.
