George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Bell, and his son, Paul Bell. He is survived by his daughters Cindy (Brad) Posner, Valerie (Bob) Ladin, Debra (Hakan) Pekkan, and Barbara Bricker. He also leaves behind a remarkable family legacy of 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He shared an especially close, fatherly bond with his grandson, Danny.
George proudly served his country for 12 years in the United States Air Force, including service during the Korean War. Following his military service, he graduated from Lewis University and built a long and dedicated career with Fruehauf Trailer Company, retiring after 26 years.
George loved his Dublin community and dedicated countless hours of service during his 40 years of residency. He was best known as the beloved “Voice of the Rocks,” announcing Dublin Coffman High School games from 1995 until he retired his microphone at the age of 89. Famous for starting each home game with his enthusiastic signature line, “Let’s get ready to rumble!” George’s spirit and commitment to Dublin athletics were honored with his induction into the Dublin Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also an active member of the Dublin Citizens Police Academy, where he once served as President, supporting local officers and strengthening ties between law enforcement and the community. In addition, George served as Trustee and Committee Member of the Muirfield Association and was awarded for his Public Leadership by the City of Dublin Merger Commission. George also volunteered for many years as a Poll Worker, faithfully giving his time in service to voters and his community. In recognition of his devotion to the city he loved, he was named the 2018 Grand Leprechaun of the City of Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Faith was also a cornerstone of George’s life. He was a devoted member of New Hope Reformed Church in Powell, Ohio, for 40 years. He served on the Stephen’s Ministry Team, where he offered care, compassion, and companionship to those in need. He also volunteered at church camps and was lovingly known as the one to carve the turkey at church holiday meals. His church family was deeply important to him, and he cherished the fellowship and friendships he found there.
George will be remembered for his commanding voice, his love of teasing, and the way he brought laughter to every room. A loving and supportive father, he adored his children and grandchildren, and above all, he deeply loved his wife, Carolyn. He thrived when surrounded by friends and family, loved to socialize, and enjoyed being the center of attention. Everyone who knew George loved him, and his legacy of warmth, humor, and love will live on in their hearts.
