Gregory Michael Scott, 56, of Lewis Center, Ohio, passed away on July 29, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, after a short battle with Bulbar ALS. Born on January 22, 1969, in Lafayette, Indiana, Gregg was the beloved son of Gerel and Charlene Scott. The family moved to Columbus the day after his birth, and it was in Westerville that Gregg’s life and character began to take shape.
A graduate of Westerville North High School, Gregg was a driven and self-made entrepreneur. At the age of 22, with a used pickup truck and a spray gun, he founded Commercial Painting, Inc. in 1991. Through determination, vision and a strong sense of fairness, he grew the company into a thriving business, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. His success was a reflection of his strong ethic and sense of character. In all aspects of his life, he was known for his kindness, generosity and unwavering loyalty.
Gregg had a love of the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and golfer. His passion for fishing began in childhood, exploring the creeks and ponds around Westerville with his family. That passion became a tradition through an annual fishing trip to Canada, at one point with four generations together. This legacy was started by Gregg’s grandfather when Gregg was only 11, and he carried it on with his own son. He was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns, his loyalty exemplified as he stood by the team through its highs and lows.
Those who knew Gregg appreciated his dry sense of humor, his quiet thoughtfulness, and his unwavering devotion to family. He had an inventive mind, always thinking towards the next idea and striving to improve the world around him. His craftsmanship, creativity and perfectionism were ever-present in his work, hobbies and devotion to his family.
Gregg was a loving husband, a devoted father, a loyal friend and a man who embodied integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Meredith Scott; children Nick, Scarlett, and Zach Scott; parents Gerel and Charlene Scott; brother David (Jennifer) Scott; Aunt Kari Kauffman and Uncle Brian (Nancy) Cole.
A public visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio, followed by a private service and burial at Blendon Central Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital City Hospice in Gregg’s name.
