Like many people during that time, the war changed the direction of her life. In the U.S. Helen forged a new life that lasted till the age of 99. Along the way she learned to speak English, found work and learned new skills.
Tante Helen, as many knew her, had many talents. She's remembered by many friends and family members for her baking prowess. The German treats, Stollen and Streusel Kuchen were among favorites. She was also a superb knitter. Helen took second place, state wide, at LeadingAge Ohio wearable art category with her creamy colored sweater.
But her greatest achievements were making friends and devotion to family. With her warm and outgoing personality, ever present smile and zest for life she was loved by many. Children held a special place in Helen's heart. She was always ready with treats or a small monetary gift. Tante Helen's generosity, in the form of special packages, also found its way to her four nieces and nephews in Germany.
We'll miss you Tante Helen, there won't be another one like you to love.
Services to be held September 1, Friday at 10am Schoedinger Worthington. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, for those who choose to do so, a donation to The Salvation Army in Helen's name is appreciated.
