Jean Irwin McMillan, 99, formerly of Worthington (Riverlea), was born March 10, 1923 to David E and Inez Irwin, and passed peacefully on May 21, 2022 at The Forum at Knightsbridge. She grew up in the Cleveland area, spending summers in Oakwood and Lima, Ohio with her Heller grandparents. With them she learned early her lifelong love of the written word, helping to set type for the Oakwood News published by her grandparents. After graduation from Lakewood HS, she attended Ohio University where she met the love of her life, Joseph G. McMillan. They were married in October 1944, before Joe shipped out to the South Pacific. She also attended UCLA. Jean lovingly raised her children and fulfilled her love of writing through short children's stories and verses, and an unpublished mystery novel. She wrote outdoor camping and fishing columns as a member of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph; their daughter, Sarah Jean (age 1 day); Jean's brother, Daniel David (age 3); and Jean's sister Patricia (John) Kircher.
Surviving children are: David McMillan, Stevenson Ranch CA; James McMillan, Greensboro NC; Susan (Rick) Samuel, Columbus OH, and Robert (Patricia) McMillan, North Olmsted OH; grandchildren: Brett Shockley, BJ Mayo, Kyle McMillan, Kaitlin Dorsch, Wesley McMillan and Shane McMillan; great grandchildren: Corrin, Camden, and Madison; great great grandchildren: Teagen and Riley; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Jean's loving aides: Laila, Fatima and Nadia (w/Bonnie and Mel); nurse Chelsea and National Church Residences Hospice; and our loving cousins who have helped us throughout this journey.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to: St. Stephens Indian Mission Foundation, PO Box 228, St Stephens, WY 82524; National Church Residences Hospice; or the Salvation Army.
