Justine’s faith journey began early in life. She attended Northrup Missionary Church and was saved in 1947 during a revival, a life change she carried with her for the rest of her life. A graduate of Gallia Academy High School, Class of 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe Bill Melton, on June 16, 1948. Their marriage was a testament to devotion and partnership, lasting 74 years until Joe’s passing in 2024. Together they welcomed one son, Ernest Michael Melton, during their time living in Ironton, Ohio.
After moving to Worthington, Ohio, Justine and Joe sought a church home and soon heard of a new church being planted by Rev. Bob Burney. They attended the very first service and became the first members of what would become Calvary Bible Baptist Church-later CrossPointe Church in Westerville. They honored that commitment faithfully for 50 years.
Justine served her church with steadfast dedication. Over more than three decades, she held the role of Church Treasurer, taught both teens and young children, and opened her home to many missionaries. For over 30 years, she and Joe organized an annual mission trip to Nova Scotia, Canada to support missionary Jeff Reason and his summer camp ministry-an experience cherished by many in the church family.
Her service extended beyond the church walls. Justine was a committed poll worker and Presiding Judge for 35 years, faithfully supporting her community through countless elections.
Justine is survived by her son, Ernest Michael Melton; her sister, Marilene Settle-Young; sister-in-law Anne Romaine; and brother-in-law Tom (Twila) Melton.
She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Lynn (Jim) Sanders, Jeff (Susan) Settle, Pam (Dale) Thatcher, David (Julia) Romaine, Kip (Annette) Romaine, Wayne (Karen) Melton, Mark (Lynette) Melton, Paul (Becky) Melton.
Her life was marked by faith, service, hospitality, and unwavering devotion to her family and church. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and commitment that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
