Lonnie was raised in Clintonville and graduated from North High School. After serving in the Army Reserves he proudly served The City of Columbus, Division of Fire for 41 years as a Firefighter/Paramedic, a role he carried with quiet honor and unwavering dedication. A silent provider by nature, he believed deeply in service--both to his community and to the people he loved. He never sought recognition, but his impact was felt far and wide.
Known for his steady hands and practical wisdom, Lonnie could fix just about anything. He spent countless hours tinkering in his barn, working his land, and caring for his home with meticulous pride. His property reflected who he was--orderly, well-kept, and built to last. Known for his strong work ethic and tireless energy, he was a true hard worker and self described workaholic.
Lonnie was a man of few words, reserved with most, but fiercely loyal and deeply generous with those he trusted and loved. To them, he gave freely--his time, his skills, his resources, and his heart. He was the kind of man who showed love through action, always there when needed, no questions asked. He will be remembered for his integrity, his kindness, his work ethic, and the calm grounding presence he brought into every space he entered.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Shelley, his steadfast partner of more than thirty years. He is survived by his children Marla (Wesley) and Andrew (Jennifer); his siblings Sandy (Bob-deceased), Judy (Mark), Jerry, Craig (Candy), and Rick (Susan); grandchildren Jacob (Erika) Trott, Alayna (Tyler) McKenzie, Paolo Swartz, Ayla Swartz; great grandson Hudson McKenzie; and sisters-in-law Stefanie (Vince-deceased) Bruzzese, and Jan (Gary-deceased) Woodward. He also leaves behind extended family, friends and neighbors who leaned on his quiet strength. Lonnie is preceded in death by father, Charles; mother, Emilie; sister, Janice; and brother, Denny.
Lonnie lived a life of purpose, humility, and service, and his legacy will continue in the lives he touched so deeply. He will be greatly missed.
Lonnie's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Schoedinger Worthington, located at 6699 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, followed by visitation from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
